Crew member found dead under suspicious circumstances, vessel detained
On October 4th, a general cargo vessel requested medical assistance for a 37-year old Ukrainian crew member when it was sailing east of Rhodes, Greece. The affected crew member was airlifted and transported to the Rhodes Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Circumstances surrounding the accident had raised suspicions and the vessel were directed to Rhodes port and anchored there. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the death of the crew member. The vessel was en route from Mersin Turkey to Rostov-on-Don, Azov Sea when the incident occurred.
