On May 29, a cruise vessel, MV Qing docked near Mormugao Port Trust in Vasco town of Goa for repairs, touched seabed and started listing towards the starboard side. This raised fears that the ship may roll over starboard side and damage the other huge floating dock, according to a Coast Guard report.
With the weather improving slightly on Thursday, the under-repair cruise liner stabilized and settled on the shore bed at Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL), Mormugao.
The MV QING, which can hold over 800 passengers, is a cruise ship which is to be converted into a floating hotel.
“There was no crew on board. But the ship has hit the seabed which is 6-7 feet deep. We have called in experts from Mumbai to lift the ship,” said Jeykumar, chairman of the port trust.
“The vessel has stabilized and is no longer listing, so there is no apparent danger. A representative of MV Qing’s owners met us and a plan was chalked out to help re-float the vessel, as it has settled on the sea bed which is around seven feet deep,” Jeyakumar added.
