CSSC Unveils China’s First 5S50ME-C Methanol Dual-Fuel Engine

1277

CSSC Engine made strides in green ship power technology by successfully submitting China’s first 5S50ME-C LGIM 9.6EcoEGR methanol dual-fuel main engine for inspection. This development follows the inspection of the first domestic 6G50ME-C LGIM 9.6EGRBP methanol dual-fuel engine in May, marking a significant advance in eco-friendly marine engines.

Engine Capabilities and Emission Standards

The 5S50ME-C LGIM 9.6EcoEGR engine has a maximum power of 6,650 kW and meets the Tier III emission standards set by the International Maritime Organization. It incorporates exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology to lower combustion temperatures, which helps reduce nitrogen oxide emissions compared to traditional engines.

Environmental and Economic Benefits of Methanol Fuel

When running on green methanol, this engine can cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 95% and reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 80%. Additionally, it can achieve zero sulfur oxides and particulate matter emissions, making it highly energy-efficient and cost-effective for ship operations. Methanol is also safer and more economical compared to alternatives like LNG, broadening its appeal in the maritime industry.

Market Presence and Future Prospects

CSSC Engine has already delivered four methanol dual-fuel engines to customers, becoming the first manufacturer in China to achieve ongoing delivery of such low-speed engines. With this latest accomplishment, CSSC Engine is reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainable marine power solutions and paving the way for broader adoption of methanol fuel in the shipping sector.
