Malaysian operator Petronas will utilize Jotun’s Hull Performance Solutions (HPS) antifouling framework for two LNG vessels which has been chartered from MISC.  Advanced antifouling coatings and a full suite of performance measurement sensors are to be implemented to the LNG carriers Seri Amanah and Puteri Zamrud which aims at increasing the efficiency of the vessel, considerably cut fuel costs and lessen CO2 outflows by 10%, as indicated by Jotun.

Petronas vice president of LNG marketing and trading, Ahmad Adly Alias, expressed that as a responsible energy company they are very much committed to meeting the world’s energy needs in a sustainable way and minimise their impact on the environment.  The right antifouling coating can enhance the efficiency of their vessels, helping them in their continual effort to reduce fuel costs and the carbon footprint of our operations worldwide.

Jotun’s regional sales director HPS, Morten Sten Johansen commented: “We recently released details of the first five year dry-docking for the very first vessel to be treated with HPS, the bulk carrier Penguin Arrow.  The data from its 60-month operational period showed that CO2 emissions were cut by some 12,055 tonnes, translating to a total fuel saving of US$1.5 million.  HPS’ combination of silyl methacrylate coating technology and an ISO 19030 compliant measurement system delivers significant, and proven, emission and cost savings.”

“Major industry players such as Petronas represent a growing cluster of environmentally responsible operators who recognise the value and benefits of advanced antifouling coatings. They, like us, are focused on contributing to a more efficient and sustainable industry. Improving hull coatings and performance is a fundamental part of that push.”
