Damen Shipyards Group, as reported by the company, has signed an LOI with Herman Sr. to construct the innovative MPV 4916. This agreement was sealed during the Offshore Energy exhibition in Amsterdam on November 26, with representatives Jeroen van Woerkum from Damen and Chris and Erwin van Dodewaard from Herman Sr. officiating the partnership.
A New Standard in Versatility
The MPV 4916 is set to redefine the workboat sector by integrating the best of Damen’s Shoalbuster and Multi Cat series. With features such as spud poles, four-point mooring, DP2 capability, and beaching, the vessel is optimized for both shallow and deep-water operations.
The vessel’s 16-meter beam provides stability for various equipment, including a hydraulic A-frame and two knuckle boom cranes, one of which is fitted with an active heave compensated winch. This configuration ensures versatility and adaptability across multiple applications.
Designed for Crew Comfort
The MPV 4916 can accommodate up to 34 personnel, prioritizing safety and comfort with SPS code accreditation and full compliance with MLC 2006 standards. Low noise and vibration levels, certified by COMF-3 notation, enhance the onboard experience.
Multifunctional Capabilities
Thanks to its flexible design, the MPV 4916 supports a wide range of operations, including cargo transport, offshore maintenance, diving support, pipeline work, and cable repair. Its ability to beach and lay cables in restricted areas, coupled with a 14-meter cable carousel capable of holding 350 tonnes, sets it apart as a specialized workhorse.
Sustainable Innovation
The MPV 4916 is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system meeting IMO Tier III standards, along with a Damen Marine NOX Reduction System. The design allows for future upgrades to full-electric propulsion and dual-fuel methanol engines, ensuring alignment with emerging sustainability trends.
A Legacy of Collaboration
Herman Sr., a longstanding partner of Damen, continues its tradition of embracing innovative solutions. The Van Dodewaard family has worked with Damen for over 75 years, often as the first adopters of new vessel types.
Construction of the MPV 4916 will commence in 2025 at Albwardy Damen’s Sharjah shipyard in the Middle East, with delivery projected for 2027. This collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to advancing maritime technology and sustainability.
