On Wednesday, more than 800,000 polystyrene containers caught fire on board a fishing vessel in the harbour of the South African city of Cape Town.
Cape Town fire and rescue spokeswoman Liezl Moddie said, “It is a major fire at the bottom of the vessel, in the cabin area. The cause is still undetermined.”
It has been reported that six firefighting vehicles had been sent to the docking area. The fire was still raging Wednesday afternoon, but the firefighters were getting the situation under control, the spokeswoman added.
According to Moodie, all five crew members on board have been evacuated from the fishing vessel without injuries.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the origin of the vessel, nationality of the crew members and the cause of fire.
