ABB’s rebranded technology provider Accelleron has partnered with Danelec Marine to provide a data collection and analysis service for shipping, reports Riviera.
Services provided
Together, they will provide internet of things (IoT) infrastructure, voyage data recorders (VDRs) and digital services dedicated to marine engines and vessel analytics.
Danelec is a provider of VDRs and DanelecConnect IoT, while Accelleron, previously ABB Turbocharging, developed Tekomar Xpert marine solutions.
Shipowners and operators can use the combined service for data analytics to improve vessel performance. Data is sourced from vessel systems, including its automation network, VDRs, positioning sensors, ECDIS, gyro compass and automatic identification system (AIS), along with sensors on engines and propellers.
Information from these are delivered in a standardised, cyber-secure method for analysis by Tekomar Xpert to deliver actionable insights.
IOT with data analysis
Accelleron and Danelec said combining IoT and data analytics will help shipping companies improve efficiencies and cut unnecessary downtime for maintenance or repairs in port.
“Managing maritime assets when they are continuously moving, such as large cargo ships or tankers, has always been a challenge and having them dock in harbour for extensive periods is very expensive,” said Danelec chief executive Casper Jensen.
“This partnership enables shipowners to leverage the benefits of automating data collection and delivering that data to shore for more efficient use, while also enabling optimised performance to keep ships moving and reduce lifecycle operating costs.”
By using VDRs on ship bridges, no further onboard IoT infrastructure is required, and no manual collection of data from the systems is needed.
“By combining Danelec’s data collection capabilities with Accelleron’s analytics software, we are providing seafarers with a higher level of data-enabled services,” said Accelleron head of sales, marketing and partnerships for digital solutions Mauro De Micheli.
“This is an important step forward as the maritime sector focuses on achieving greater efficiencies and operational optimisation.”
Owners and operators will retain full control over their vessels’ data and will be able to share operational signals via a secured gateway through the Accelleron and Danelec partnership.
