Diana Shipping Inc. Extends Charter for m/v Semirio and m/v DSI Aquila

In Athens, Greece Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE: DSX), a leading global shipping company, has announced the extension of time charter contracts for two of its dry bulk vessels, the m/v Semirio and m/v DSI Aquila, reports Diana Shipping Inc.

Extension of Charter for m/v Semirio

Diana Shipping has extended its time charter with Solebay Shipping Cape Company Limited, Hong Kong, for the m/v Semirio, a Capesize dry bulk vessel. The new gross charter rate is set at US$16,650 per day, minus a 5% commission to third parties. The charter period will commence on February 4, 2025, and extend until a minimum of February 15, 2026, up to a maximum of April 15, 2026. The vessel was previously chartered at a gross rate of US$14,150 per day, also minus the 5% commission.

The m/v Semirio is a 174,261 dwt Capesize dry bulk vessel built in 2007.

Extension of Charter for m/v DSI Aquila

Diana Shipping has also extended the time charter contract with Western Bulk Carriers AS for the m/v DSI Aquila, an Ultramax dry bulk vessel. The gross charter rate is set at US$12,250 per day, minus a 5% commission to third parties, for a period of five to seven months, beginning on January 23, 2025. The vessel was previously chartered at a gross rate of US$12,500 per day, minus the 5% commission.

The m/v DSI Aquila is an Ultramax dry bulk vessel built in 2015 with a dwt of 60,309.

Revenue Generation from the Time Charter Extensions

Revenue generated from the extensions of the charters for both m/v Semirio and the m/v DSI Aquila, which are scheduled to run for their minimum scheduled periods for the time charters, are expected to aggregate to approximately US$7.52 million in gross revenue.

Diana Shipping Inc. currently operates a fleet of 38 dry bulk vessels, including:

  2. 8 Capesize
  3. 5 Post-Panamax
  4. 6 Kamsarmax

The Company’s fleet has a combined carrying capacity of approximately 4.2 million dwt, excluding two vessels that have not yet been delivered. The fleet’s weighted average age is 11.29 years. Additionally, the Company expects to take delivery of two methanol dual-fuel Kamsarmax vessels by the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028.
