Diana Shipping Secures New Time Charter For Capesize Vessel At Higher Rate

Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE: DSX), a global shipping company specializing in dry bulk vessels, announced a new time charter contract for its Capesize vessel, the m/v G. P. Zafirakis, with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK). The vessel will earn a gross charter rate of $26,800 per day for 23 to 26 months, starting from September 9, 2024.

Charter Details

The m/v G. P. Zafirakis, a 179,492 dwt vessel built in 2014, is expected to generate approximately $18.49 million in gross revenue over the minimum charter period. Previously, the vessel was chartered at $17,000 per day, making this new contract a significant improvement in earnings.

Fleet Overview

Following the sale of the m/v Houston, Diana Shipping Inc.’s fleet will consist of 38 dry bulk vessels. The fleet includes various vessel types, such as Newcastlemax, Capesize, Post-Panamax, Kamsarmax, Panamax, and Ultramax, with a combined carrying capacity of approximately 4.4 million dwt and an average age of 11.06 years.
