The waterborne sector is a vibrant and multifaceted ecosystem, characterized by a wide range of public and private entities, reports Water-Borne.

Digital Solutions

Digitalization and sustainability, encompassing circularity principles, are identified as crucial elements for enhancing the resilience and competitiveness of the European waterborne sector. Competitiveness in this context signifies that research, development, and innovation outcomes position the European waterborne sector as a leader in developed technologies. It also highlights the inherent advantages of waterborne transport over other modes.

Further advancement and deployment of zero-emission solutions (including circularity) and digitalization are deemed critical for ensuring a prosperous future for the sector. This includes strengthening the capabilities of the European maritime technology sector. A competitive value chain is also heavily reliant on a resilient supply chain capable of sourcing all components, from raw materials to advanced high-tech parts. Reliable delivery also necessitates a well-connected and innovative trans-European network.

The development and deployment of zero-emission and digital solutions and products, such as vessels and platforms, require the active participation of all key stakeholders. This includes collaborative investments from ports, shipowners, shipyards, equipment manufacturers, infrastructure and service providers, the research community, and the public sector. Enhanced cooperation with various European Commission Services and EU Member States is essential to further strengthen a “Team Europe” approach, ensuring collective progress towards a resilient, competitive, and sustainable future for waterborne transport.
