Maersk Line has signed a five-year contract with Riverbed Technology to monitor business-critical applications and services.  The container ship operator intends to use the applications to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across the company.  This will lead to greater digitisation of Maersk Line and its operations, according to one Maersk IT expert.

Maersk Line plans to fully implement Riverbed SteelCentral to effectively monitor its IT infrastructure and business services.  The Danish group will be able to track containers, spare capacity, business transactions and performance of its own seafarers using these applications.

Maersk Group Infrastructure Services will be responsible for implementing the platform and managing the Maersk Line IT infrastructure.  Its head of production Andy Laurence said this would be significant for the digitalisation of Maersk Line.  He added: “As we continue on our digital journey, having a scalable and stable digital platform infrastructure and end-to-end visibility across our digital services and into the cloud is critical.”

Mr Laurence said this single solution provides Maersk Line with a complete view across networks, applications and end-users.  He expects Riverbed SteelCentral to be implemented by other Maersk Group companies in the future.
