It has become known, that the ship suffered a fire on board on Nov 23, which was extinguished by crew, but understood, the tanker was disabled, in need of towage, reports Maritime Bulletin.
The tanker owner made up his mind by Nov 25 and contracted Russian Salvage SAR ship SPASATEL DEMIDOV (IMO 9681443), to tow the tanker to Coruna Spain. for repairs, ETA Nov 28.
Apparently, Spanish authorities and Salvamento Maritimo Spain were very disappointed, because they’ve been trying to seize the contract, too. Their disappointment became public after Spanish media expressed concerns and displeasure with the owner’s several days delay in appointing a salvage company.
The tanker was far off the Spanish coast, but “she could be a danger”, Spanish media said. Spanish SAR ship SAR GAVIA was escorting caravan “to make sure towage is safe”.
