  • DNV and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) formalized their long-term partnership on 3 June to boost education, research, and innovation in maritime and energy fields.
  • The collaboration includes access to DNV’s technical resources, internship programs for students, and training opportunities for young lecturers.
  • The initiative supports Indonesia’s energy transition goals while equipping students with skills to tackle real-world challenges through industry-aligned learning.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 3 June at the ITS Rectorate Building marks the beginning of a deeper collaboration between DNV and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The partnership will begin with targeted initiatives to enhance academic excellence, student development, and applied research, particularly in the maritime and energy sectors, according to DNV.

Enhancing Education and Industry Exposure

As part of the agreement, DNV will grant ITS students and faculty access to its comprehensive library of standards, rules, and guidelines. This access will enrich learning, foster innovation, and improve the quality of community service at ITS. In addition, DNV will provide internships and practical training opportunities for students and facilitate technical assistance programs for early-career lecturers, bridging academic knowledge with practical industry experience.

Shared Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

This MoU formalizes a longstanding relationship between the two institutions and supports ITS in addressing key challenges in the maritime and energy domains, such as the energy transition, AI integration, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Through this partnership, ITS seeks to nurture a generation of students equipped to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future.

Brice Le Gallo, Vice President & Regional Director of Asia Pacific Energy Systems at DNV, emphasized the importance of the partnership:
“DNV is committed to supporting Indonesia’s energy and maritime sectors in the journey towards a safer and more sustainable future. Through this collaboration, students can tap into our deep industry expertise to gain valuable insights into real-world challenges and build the essential skills needed to navigate a rapidly evolving global landscape.”

He added:
“As we enter a new phase of transition, the spirit of decarbonization has become central to our work, and by working with our peers at ITS, we aim to accelerate and support the region’s efforts to safeguard the energy systems of tomorrow.”

Empowering Future Maritime Professionals

Vice Rector I of ITS, Prof. Nurul Widiastuti, S.Si, M.Si., Ph.D, expressed optimism about the initiative’s impact:
“This initiative will serve as a platform to strengthen the quality of education across all study programs within the Faculty of Marine Technology, including relevant programs in other faculties.
With DNV’s support, our responsibility to produce high-quality graduates will be more achievable and will enhance their adaptability to future maritime industry challenges.”
