  • DNV approved DSOC’s CO2 carrier designs.
  • DSOC’s carriers support the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) industry.
  • DSOC leads in dual-carbon innovation.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of ONS 2024, Det Norske Veritas (DNV) has granted an Approval-in-Principle (AIP) certificate for the 12,000m³ and 20,000m³ Liquefied Carbon Dioxide (LCO2) carriers. These carriers were developed collaboratively by Dalian Shipbuilding & Offshore (DSOC), the Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC), Watts Energy & Engineering (WE), and Germany’s TGE, reports iMarine.

Feasibility and Strategic Importance

The AIP certificate validates the overall feasibility of the conceptual design created by DSOC and its partners.

This certification supports the provision of standardized CO2 carrier solutions to the growing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) industry, reinforcing DSOC’s commitment to leading in the development of customized CO2 carriers for the CCS market.

Guo Chao, Deputy General Manager of DSOC, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “I would like to thank DNV, MARIC, WE and TGE for their strong support in the development of this two new CO2 carriers. All parties are the most experienced representatives in their respective fields within the industry. DSOC, as the lead entity, deeply appreciates the importance of leveraging standardization and mature experience during the development of this new CO2 carriers. We join hands with all parties to provide a standardized ship type solution, which will help the industry upstream and downstream to take fewer detours, reduce the cost of trial and error, help the development of the CCS industry, and contribute to the response to global climate change and the early realization of the dual-carbon goal.”

Continued Innovation in the CCS Industry

In recent years, DSOC has focused on the dual-carbon sector, building on its experience with the world’s first carbon dioxide transportation vessels for Northern Lights.

DSOC has continued to develop new vessels by leveraging industry resources and aligning closely with market demands. The two CO2 carriers, designed in partnership with DNV, MARIC, WE, and TGE, offer operational flexibility and high performance, providing top-tier solutions for global CCS customers.

This collaboration marks another success in innovative and mutually beneficial partnerships across the industry.
