World’s first comprehensive global ranking of container ports

DNV and Menon Economics have introduced the world’s first comprehensive global ranking of container ports. The LCP report provides a comparative assessment of 160 ports using 35 indicators across five strategic pillars, combining objective data with expert insight from leading industry stakeholders.

Singapore ranks as the world’s leading container port, followed by Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan, Rotterdam and Busan. The top-performing ports demonstrate strong governance structures, high connectivity and targeted investments in digitalisation and low-emission solutions.

The findings show that ports with clear strategic direction and long-term investment plans are better positioned to respond to shifts in global trade patterns and regulatory requirements. Several ports outside the global top tier are also strengthening their performance through expanded capacity, improved service quality and investments in greener energy solutions, reflecting a broader move toward more resilient and sustainable port operations.

The report also includes 14 regional rankings, identifying New York & New Jersey, Hamburg, Tanger Med, Jebel Ali and Sydney as leaders within their respective regions.
