Double Blackout on Wester Scheldt

1847

On November 2, a vessel reportedly suffered from engine failure twice with the crew struggling to bring it back to life.

What happened?

The vessel ‘Bow Spring’ suffered engine blackout twice when it was enroute from Tarragona to Antwerp.

Engine blackouts:

The engine suffered a double blackout, the first blackout occurred in the morning near West of Terneuzen. After a while, the crew managed to get the engine running again, but it was not for long when another blackout occurred.

Assisted by tow tugs:

To prevent the vessel from being adrift, the anchor was dropped and was then taken in tow by tugs ‘Braakman’ and ‘Gent’ to the Terneuzen Put for further investigations. The tow tug ‘RWS 78’ from Rijskwaterstaat was dispatched to guard the tanker.
