ITOCHU Corporation has entered into a strategic collaboration with DP World to strengthen business opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding announced during the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) held in Yokohama in August 2025. According to the announcement released by ITOCHU, the alliance focuses on enhancing logistics, port operations, and trade-related services in the region.

Strategic Collaboration for Growth in Africa

The partnership between ITOCHU and DP World brings together two major players with complementary strengths. ITOCHU, with decades of experience in raw materials and goods trading, and DP World, a global leader in port operations and logistics, are now exploring initiatives ranging from fleet management to food and daily necessities wholesaling in Sub-Saharan Africa. DP World, founded in 2005, has an established footprint across 48 African countries and has already invested more than USD 3 billion in infrastructure, including its 2022 acquisition of Imperial Logistics in South Africa.

The company has also announced an additional USD 3 billion investment over the next three to five years, with key projects underway in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Mozambique. Through this collaboration, both companies aim to connect Japanese businesses with local entities, fostering new opportunities while advancing ITOCHU’s management policy of expanding downstream operations closer to consumers.
