DP World celebrated the arrival of the APL Fullerton, the largest ship ever to visit South America’s West Coast. The vessel docked at DP World’s terminals in Peru and Ecuador, marking a critical moment for expanding regional connectivity and supporting global trade, reports India Shipping News.

Historic Docking at Port of Callao

On September 10, 2024, the APL Fullerton arrived at DP World’s Callao terminal in Peru, measuring 397.88 meters long and 51 meters wide, with a capacity of 17,292 TEU.

This vessel is larger than three professional soccer fields combined, and DP World Callao is the only terminal in Peru equipped to receive such large ships.

Attendance by Peruvian Leaders

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, along with the Minister of Transport and Communications and the Chairman of the Peruvian Port Authority, attended this historic event.

This moment underscores the collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to modernize ports and boost national progress.

CEO Carlos Merino’s Statement

Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World in Ecuador and Peru, emphasized the importance of this achievement. “This milestone is the result of hard work, planning, and collaboration between the public and private sectors… We will continue to work to create opportunities for thousands of Peruvian importers and exporters.”

He highlighted the terminal’s direct connection to 51 ports, including 12 in Asia, boosting regional trade.

Posorja Terminal in Ecuador

After its stop in Peru, the APL Fullerton docked at DP World’s Posorja terminal in Ecuador on September 14, 2024.

The terminal’s deepwater channel allows it to handle Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs) up to 22,000 TEU in capacity. It further strengthens Ecuador’s role in global trade, particularly with Asia.

Strategic Shipping in Posorja

Merino emphasized the importance of Posorja as a regional hub: “We continue to consolidate Posorja as a strategic shipping point… strengthening the country’s competitiveness in important markets such as Asia.”

This underscores Posorja’s role in boosting Ecuador’s trade potential.

Milestones in Peru and Ecuador

DP World’s terminals in Callao and Posorja continue to gain recognition as critical trade gateways.

The company recently celebrated two significant milestones: the $400-million Bicentennial Pier expansion in Callao and the berth expansion project in Posorja, Ecuador.

DP World’s Strategic Vision for Latin America

DP World’s significant investments in its terminals across Peru and Ecuador aim to boost capacity and operational efficiency.

These moves align with DP World’s strategic vision to enhance Latin America’s role in global trade and strengthen connections to markets, especially in Asia.
