- Seamless End-to-End Logistics for SailGP’s Global Racing Events.
- Regional Expertise Meets Global Oversight: DP World’s Role in SailGP.
- Sustainability at the Core: DP World to Support SailGP’s Carbon-Neutral Goals.
DP World has partnered with SailGP to manage the logistics for the global racing championship’s annual calendar of events. Leveraging its expansive network of 115,000 employees in 78 countries, DP World will provide end-to-end logistics services, including sea freight, courier services, and route optimization. Its capabilities in storage handling, trucking, rail, and barge transport will also support the smooth delivery of the championship across five continents, reports DP World.
Regional and Global Oversight
DP World’s regional teams will offer on-ground support at each race weekend, while a UAE-based Control Tower Team will provide 24/7 global oversight. This dual-level approach ensures seamless operations for the event’s demanding logistics requirements.
Commitment to Sustainability
Aligned with SailGP’s sustainability ambitions, DP World will prioritize carbon-neutral logistics by emphasizing low-carbon transport methods and offering race-by-race carbon tracking. This partnership demonstrates both organizations’ dedication to reducing their environmental impact while delivering world-class events.
Handling Complex Logistical Demands
The partnership will include bespoke solutions for transporting the championship’s F50 catamarans. These vessels must be disassembled into specialized components for sea freight, transported in custom containers, and reconstructed at race locations. DP World will also manage the logistics for essential supplies, including team boats, broadcast equipment, and racecourse infrastructure. It ensures that every championship aspect is efficiently delivered.
Proven Track Record in Sports Logistics
SailGP joins a growing list of high-profile sporting events supported by DP World. In 2023, the company transported over 20 containers with 10,000 essential items to Rome for the Ryder Cup. DP World played a pivotal role in the logistics for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States this year. It is further solidifying its reputation for excellence in sports logistics.
Leadership Perspectives
Daniel van Otterdijk, Chief Communications Officer at DP World, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We’re delighted to partner with SailGP to deliver smarter, more efficient, and sustainable logistics solutions for their global calendar of races. This is an exciting opportunity to bring our global network and world-class logistics capabilities to the sporting arena.”
Andrew Thompson, SailGP Managing Director, highlighted the significance of the collaboration: “Transporting thousands of pieces of race equipment globally makes SailGP one of the most complex logistical operations in sport. Working with forward-thinking partners like DP World ensures we can innovate and deliver the most exciting racing on the water to fans worldwide.”
Launch of the Partnership
The three-year partnership will get underway at the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix, the 2025-season-opener. Dubai is scheduled for November 23-24, 2024, on Mina Rashid, with a record 11 national teams. The event has also identified the near-port location, owned by the P&O Marinas subsidiary of DP World, as a key founding partner.
