On April 1, a cargo vessel collided with a tank barge on the Waal, after it suffered a blackout in its engine room.
What happened?
The cargo vessel ‘Montanara’ loaded with coal suffered a blackout which subsequently disabled the vessel. The cargo vessel was adrift and collided with the tank barge ‘Hermann Burmester’.
Tank barge damaged
The tank barge was enroute from Amsterdam and suffered a leak in the foreship with ensuing water ingress. A local patrol boat and fire boat were dispatched o the scene of collision and was towed to the emergency port in Lobith for further repairs.
Meanwhile, a mechanic was able to rectify the power supply issue onboard the cargo vessel and power was restored to the vessel. The vessel is currently berthed in Rotterdam.
