On Sep 14, Customs officer’s search on a container ship “DIMITRIS C” fetched 3 bags with 120 bricks of cocaine at Ilo port, Peru. Ship and crew are detained, search still under way, police waiting for the arrival of drug-search trained dogs.
The ship with 23 crew, includes 16 Ukrainian, 3 Russian and 4 Tanzanian nationalities. She arrived from Iquique, Chile, with next port of call being Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Investigation on the issue has begun and details of the drug bust looks sketchy. Still information is awaited on the following questions. what’s the weight of narcotics, where exactly were they found, does cash belong to one crew or several crew (and what’s so criminal in 23 crew having 16K cash on their hands)?
