Drydocks World Co-Founds Global Green Shipyard Alliance To Drive Maritime Sustainability

12

In a significant move to fast-track the maritime industry’s sustainability transition, Drydocks World has co-founded the Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA).

This new international coalition brings together leading shipyards from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to develop and implement cleaner, greener technologies across global shipbuilding and repair operations.

As one of the five founding members, Drydocks World aims to reinforce Dubai’s position as a responsible maritime leader while setting new ESG benchmarks for the sector.

A United Global Effort Toward Decarbonisation

The GGSA comes at a crucial time as the maritime industry faces increasing pressure to align with global climate goals and reduce emissions. Founding members include Astilleros Shipyard Group (Spain), BREDO Dry Docks GmbH (Germany), and IMC Shipyard Services Group (Singapore, China, Thailand)—ensuring strategic coverage of key maritime regions. Together, they will promote clean technology adoption, such as hybrid propulsion systems, energy-efficient retrofits, and digital optimization solutions to enhance environmental performance globally.

Drydocks World’s Central Role in Driving Green Innovation

As a founding member, Drydocks World is set to play a pivotal leadership role in the alliance’s direction and execution. CEO Captain Rado Antolovic emphasized the shared responsibility to accelerate decarbonisation and highlighted the company’s commitment to long-term environmental value through cleaner technologies and collaborative innovation.

COO Imran Inamdar echoed this, stressing the importance of practical solutions and measurable outcomes in shipbuilding and retrofitting, positioning Drydocks World at the forefront of operational transformation.

A Broader Sustainability Vision Under DP World

The GGSA is now the third major sustainability initiative backed by DP World, following the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA) and the First Movers Coalition.

ZEPA focuses on scaling up battery-electric container handling equipment, while the First Movers Coalition channels collective purchasing power into zero-emission technologies. Together, these initiatives reflect a unified vision: accelerating the transition to a cleaner, more efficient maritime sector by leveraging partnerships, innovation, and global cooperation.
