Four Dutch crew members have admitted their role in Singapore’s worst oil spill in a decade, following a collision at a shipping terminal in June 2024. The incident caused significant damage and required a lengthy clean-up operation.

Collision and Damage

In June 2024, a dredger collided with a bunker-fuel vessel, damaging oil tanks and costing over S$6.6 million in repairs. The spill spread along the coast for over 30 kilometers, impacting the environment.

Legal Consequences

The crew members have been charged under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and will be sentenced on April 2. They face fines up to S$50,000 or imprisonment, or both.
