Dutch Shipbuilder Selects DMC For Advanced Marine Technology

Dutch shipbuilder GS Projects has contracted DMC to supply steering, control, and propulsion equipment for four dry cargo vessels. These vessels are being built at the GS Projects shipyard in the Netherlands for a shortsea shipping client, according to Damen.

Optimal Maneuverability

This combination of three DMC products is well-suited for these vessels, which have dimensions of 99 meters in length, 15 meters in width, a design draft of 6.2 meters, and a deadweight of 5,900 tonnes. Furthermore, the robust design and engineering of DMC’s components will easily meet the stringent requirements of Lloyd’s Register classification and the demanding Finnish-Swedish 1A ice class specifications.

DMC’s renowned Barke rudder, with its advanced flap linkage system, ensures excellent maneuverability and course stability. This translates to lower fuel consumption and reduced maintenance costs. Additionally, the Optima nozzle, known for its performance and reliability among shipowners worldwide, particularly in short-sea shipping, contributes to improved fuel efficiency.

With the first of the four vessels scheduled for delivery at the beginning of 2026, DMC’s ‘plug-and-play’ designs will help with a smooth construction process. “Look, for example, at their piston steering system. DMC will deliver these fully tested, certified hydraulic-powered units ready for installation,” says GS Projects Project Manager Henk Oudman. “This will significantly speed up our operations at the shipyard.”
