Supporting Seafarers During Festive Season
Renewable energy giant Drax, in collaboration with partners, has raised more than £10,000 for the Mission to Seafarers charity. The initiative aims to provide Christmas parcels, including essential supplies like food, toiletries, warm clothing, and stocking fillers, to seafarers working at sea during the festive period.
Exceeding Targets for Christmas Parcels
The funds raised surpassed the initial target of 600 Christmas parcels, allowing for additional support. The surplus funds are allocated towards Mi-Fi communications, enhancing connectivity for those at sea to stay in touch with their families and friends.
Contribution of Seafarers and an Act of Thanks
Drax Head of Logistics, Mark Gibbens acknowledges the biomass delivered by the seafarers which in turn helps generate renewable power for millions in Britain. He also said, “We wanted to make sure that at this special time of the year, we took a moment to thank those who are sacrificing time with their families to supply our power station with the renewable fuel that we need. I’d like to thank all our partners who helped with this project. We hope all of those working at sea this Christmas have a safe and pleasant time, despite being away from their families.”
Partnerships Strengthening the Initiative
Drax’s partners – DAN Shipping, Ultrabulk, Associated British Ports, GB Railfreight, MOL, SMS Towage, Port of Tyne, DB Cargo, and AHK took part in this thoughtful act. They played a crucial role in the success of this initiative. Their collaborative efforts demonstrate a commitment to recognizing and thanking those who contribute to the global supply chain, especially during the holiday season.
