Under the ‘National Skills Future’ initiative, a one-year diploma course in port management and operations will be developed by PSA International (PSA) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) which will be an earn-and-learn programme (ELP). This is the first of its kind specifically designed for the Singapore port industry. The ELP will be launched in June, 2016.
Students will benefit from full-time employment, a structured learning framework in the disciplines of engineering, information technology and maritime business and career advancement pathways. The co-operative venture will equip future port professionals with work-ready knowledge, industry-relevant competencies and skills through comprehensive, hands-on training. It would also enhance Singapore’s status as a global hub port with the expansion of Pasir Panjang Terminals and eventually the development of Tuas megaport.
The ELP collaboration is a key component of a five-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed recently by PSA and SP.
Established in 1954, SP has 10 schools that offer 48 full-time diploma courses for close to 16,000 students. SP adopts a proven creative teaching and learning framework and offers students a holistic, authentic and industry-relevant curriculum, innovative and vibrant learning spaces and enriching overseas programmes.
