Japanese company Nissen Kaiun has purchased a stake in the Dutch firm Econowind. This partnership aims to promote the use of wind-assisted shipping technology to reduce emissions and fuel consumption in the maritime industry.

About Econowind’s Technology

Econowind has developed a patented technology called the VentoFoil. This device uses suction-based airflow control to provide efficient and scalable energy savings for ships. The company has already sold over 130 units globally to both shortsea and deepsea operators.

Future Plans

The CEO of Econowind, Daan Koornneef, stated that the investment from Nissen Kaiun will help the company expand its product line to include larger VentoFoils suitable for deep-sea shipping. The partnership is also expected to help Econowind grow its presence in Japan and the wider Asian markets, with the potential for future production in the region.
