Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Egypt’s Alexandria Port Authority and Croatia’s Port of Rijeka Authority. This agreement aims to enhance maritime transport and logistics collaboration, develop port infrastructure, and exchange technological expertise between the two nations, according to Middle East News Agency.
Strengthening Bilateral Maritime Cooperation
Madbouli highlighted the significance of this agreement in fostering Egyptian-Croatian cooperation, particularly in the maritime sector, and opening new economic and regional opportunities. “This will magnify the role played by ports as strategic commercial gateways, especially as Alexandria is the main Egyptian maritime gateway on the Mediterranean Sea,” he said, adding that about 60 percent of Egypt’s exports and imports are handled at Alexandria port.
Boosting Trade and Economic Integration
The Port of Rijeka, recognized as Croatia’s gateway to central and eastern European markets, will play a crucial role in enhancing trade connectivity. The collaboration is expected to strengthen the maritime link between Southern Europe and Africa via the Alexandria and Rijeka ports.
Board Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority Ahmed Hawwash expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that it will attract European and African investments while promoting economic integration between both countries.
