The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has collaborated with Swiss logistics company MEDLOG to provide funding, design, construct, operate, and maintain a new domestic dry port and logistics centre in the 10th of Ramadan City. Public Authority sealed the deal for Land and Dry Ports head Sayed Metwally and MEDLOG CEO Domenico Zanon, reports Yahoo Finance.

Key Location: 10th of Ramadan City

The 10th of Ramadan City is an industrial city that was established in the 1970s in the Sharqiya governorate in eastern Egypt. It is strategically positioned along major highways, making it an ideal location for enhancing Egypt’s logistics infrastructure.

MEDLOG, a division of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), won the global tender for this project, beating four international consortiums, according to Daily News Egypt.

Expansion of Dry Port and Logistics Infrastructure

Egypt has already built 22 dry ports and logistics zones in the country, among them one in the 10th of Ramadan City. The Ministry of Transport plans to develop 33 dry ports and seven logistics corridors to enhance transportation, logistics, and transit trade capabilities.

Other industrial cities such as Sadat, New Damietta, New Fayoum, and Beni Suef are also experiencing the construction of similar dry ports.

Integration with Urban Communities and Seaports

In fact, according to Industry and Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, industrial zones must be connected to seaports on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean through integrated logistics corridors. A new dry port will link urban communities through railway lines including both diesel and high-speed electric trains, as well as major road networks.

Details of the 10th of Ramadan Dry Port Project

The dry port and logistics zone in the 10th of Ramadan City will cover 250 acres, of which 130 acres will be for the port and 120 acres for the logistics area. The project is a part of the Sokhna/Alexandria international logistics corridor, which connects Sokhna Port on the Red Sea with Mediterranean ports such as Port Said, Damietta, and Alexandria.
The logistics corridor will be linked with the new Robiki/10th of Ramadan/Belbeis rail system, which will further facilitate transportation.

Boosting Egypt’s Economic Growth

This new logistics hub is going to contribute to some extent to the emerging industrial and urban development across Egypt. The project would connect critical industrial zones with seaports by advanced logistics corridors. The project aligns with Egypt’s vision of strengthening its transport and logistics sectors.
