Hanwha Oceans, a major South Korean shipbuilder, secured a $498 million order for 4 large ammonia carriers from a Greek shipping company, reports YONHAP news agency.
Traits Of The Carrier
The vessels will be constructed at Hanwha Ocean’s shipyard in Geoje on the south coast and delivered to Naftomar Shipping and Trading Co Ltd. by the first half of 2027. These vessels are the largest globally and are capable of carrying 93,000 cubic meters of ammonia each a more environmentally friendly fuel source.
Eco-Friendly Vessel Construction
Hanwha Ocean’s prior approval for an 86,000-cubic-meter ammonia carrier, obtained from certification bodies in France and Britain, underscores its commitment to green shipbuilding technologies. This deal marks a significant step in leading the construction of eco-friendly and digitally advanced vessels.
