- Rahaal, launched by the UAE’s first female ship captain, Sahar Rasti, is a digital platform dedicated to maritime job opportunities.
- The platform connects job seekers with companies and academic institutions, making recruitment more streamlined and accessible.
- It aims to support Emirati talent, encourage localisation in the maritime industry, and guide students and graduates in choosing suitable career paths.
Captain Sahar Rasti has introduced Rahaal, the UAE’s first digital job-matching platform focused on the maritime sector. Named after the Arabic word for “traveller” or “nomad,” Rahaal reflects the nature of maritime professions that involve constant movement and global travel, according to Marine Insight.
Purpose and Vision of the Platform
Rahaal was developed to simplify the job search process in an industry where many do not know how to get started. By uniting maritime companies and academic institutions, the platform offers a centralised space for finding cadet training, internships, and job openings, enhancing access and convenience for job seekers.
Support for National Talent and Industry Localisation
Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, expressed that Rahaal will boost the participation of national talent and encourage the localisation of maritime roles. She emphasised that maritime careers go beyond seafaring and port management, encompassing sectors like shipbuilding, medical services, repairs, and logistics.
Addressing Job Search Challenges for Seafarers
Traditionally, many seafarers have relied on personal connections to secure employment. Rahaal changes this by offering a transparent and accessible platform where job opportunities are visible and easily navigable, enabling better connection between employers and candidates.
Fujairah’s Maritime Significance and Sectoral Investment
With Fujairah ranking third globally in the number of ships it services, Al Malek highlighted the emirate’s crucial maritime role and called for increased investment and participation in the sector. She encouraged local communities to recognise the industry’s value and engage more actively with its growth.
Guiding the Next Generation
Rahaal also serves as a career exploration tool for students and graduates who are unsure about their paths in the maritime field. By providing clarity and access to a range of roles, the platform aims to inspire and guide young talent towards meaningful careers within the diverse maritime ecosystem.
