Empowering Women In Maritime MOL Group’s Commitment To Diversity And Inclusion

The MOL Group continues to lead the way in promoting gender equality and empowerment within the maritime industry. In its sixth year, the global conference themed “Believe – Achieve – Lead: Inspiring Women in Maritime” brought together over 500 participants from 70 companies worldwide. The event served as a platform to celebrate women’s achievements in shipping, share experiences, and strengthen collaboration across the maritime community.

Celebrating Women’s Achievements in Maritime

MOL Group proudly participated with 20 representatives, including women seafarers from its in-house manning company. Among the key speakers were Captain Animesh Hore, General Manager of Global Maritime Resources Division, and Captain Naomi Matsushita, Japan’s first female captain in an intermodal shipping group. Both speakers emphasized the importance of women’s contributions and leadership in maritime professions.

Women seafarers from the MOL Group shared their personal stories, showcasing the rewards and challenges of maritime careers. The event also offered an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, career goals, and mutual encouragement during networking sessions.

Driving Change Through DE&I and Well-being Initiatives

MOL considers Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) a key driver of growth and innovation. The company has set a clear target to increase the number of women cadets to 35% by 2035. Beyond recruitment goals, MOL supports seafarers’ well-being through its “OceanCare” program, launched to offer mental health and welfare services tailored to seafarers, including women-specific support.

These efforts align with MOL’s broader sustainability goals, contributing to “Safety & Value” and “Human & Community” two of the company’s five core sustainability issues.

Through conferences, leadership initiatives, and programs like OceanCare, the MOL Group reaffirms its dedication to empowering women in maritime and fostering an inclusive environment where all seafarers can thrive.
