Engine Failure Left A Container Ship Adrift

Location: Yucatan Channel on 35 nautical miles west off Cuba
Casualties/Pollution: Nil

The container ship experienced an engine failure and got black out.  Hence, it was forced to anchor off Cuba’s westernmost tip.  The vessel is believed to be seaworthy as the weather conditions remain to be moderate.

No assistance was requested by the crew and they work to fix the problem and restart the engine.  Though no request was received, the vessel is under monitoring . Also, a salvage tug is on standby to support the vessel.  There were no reports regarding the casualties or pollution.

According to the reports, the vessel is expected to continue its voyage in a day or two.  Finally, the vessel’s crew reported the local authorities about engine failure and inspection will be held in the next port.
