Engine Manufacturing Trio Launch Hydrogen-powered Engine Venture

  • These marine engine manufacturers have joined forces to establish a new joint venture focused on the development of hydrogen-fueled engines for the maritime industry.

Japanese marine engine manufacturers Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Yanmar Power Technology Co., Ltd., and Japan Engine Corporation have announced the joint establishment of a new company, HyEng Corporation, reads the Kawasaki press release.

The partners say the new company will pursue joint development of ‘world-leading marine hydrogen-fuelled engines’.

Maritime decarbonisation

In addition to engine development, the new venture’s main business activities will centre on the development of international standards and rules for hydrogen fuel supply systems; the integration hydrogen fuel supply systems; and the maintenance and operation of hydrogen fuel engine demonstration facilities.

With the establishment of HyEng Corporation, the three companies will further advance their joint development activities and accelerate their drive to develop new markets for decarbonisation in the marine domain,’ the companies said jointly.
