On March 13, the engine room of a ferry caught fire off Lismore lighthouse and was at the danger of drifting towards the shore.
What happened?
The ferry ‘Ronja Skye’ suffered a fire in its engine room and called for assistance. The lifeboat ‘Oban’ was dispatched to assist the stricken ferry.
Crew safe
The RNLI volunteers made their way towards the ferry but the fire had already been brought under control by the crew members who were reported to be safe.
However, the vessel suffered full engine failure and was in a danger of drifting closer to the shore.
Vessel towed to safety
The Oban RNLI established a tow and proceeded to a safe area for the ferry to drop anchor. The ferry will be subjected to survey to carry out further inspection and repairs.
