176

Damen Shipyards Group and prominent shipping group CMA CGM have initiated a collaboration aimed at enhancing the fuel efficiency of approximately 100 CMA CGM vessels. Through significant modifications, these vessels are expected to achieve fuel savings of over 10%. The upgrades will be carried out at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDu) and Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm), leveraging their extensive experience in complex refits and retrofits.

Bow Bulb Installation for Fuel Efficiency

    • The centrepiece of the cooperation involves the installation of bulbs on the bows of the vessels, a move expected to yield substantial fuel savings.
    • This marks the first time CMA CGM will utilize European shipyards for such modifications, shifting from previous reliance on Chinese and Middle Eastern yards.

Comprehensive Upgrade Packages

    • In addition to bow bulb installations, Damen is offering comprehensive upgrade packages to further enhance vessel efficiency.
    • Upgrades include propeller upgrades, modifications to propeller nozzles, and application of silicone paint, each contributing to additional fuel economies

Commitment to Cleaner Operations

      • CMA CGM’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond fuel efficiency upgrades, with three vessels also equipped to access shore power to reduce emissions in port.
      • The partnership signifies a long-term commitment between CMA CGM and Damen, leveraging Damen’s facilities and accessibility to major shipping routes for seamless service delivery.
