ESL Shipping has secured a significant 15-year loan from Svenska Skeppshypotek to support its investment in four eco-friendly, next-generation ships ordered in October 2024. This follows a €45 million loan agreement with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) earlier this month, reinforcing ESL Shipping’s strong commitment to sustainable maritime operations.
Backing the Green Transition in Shipping
The loan supports the construction of four 1A ice-class Handysize vessels, designed for fossil-free operation using green methanol and featuring 1MWh battery packs. These ships are key to ESL Shipping’s green transition and will play a crucial role in supporting the Finnish and Swedish industries with low-emission logistics solutions.
Advanced Features for Environmental Compliance
The vessels are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) and are equipped with:
-
Shore power connection for zero-emission port stays
-
Sewage treatment units
-
Cargo hold wash water recovery systems
-
Ballast water treatment systems (BWTS)
These features ensure high compliance with current and future environmental standards.
