At GasTech 2025 in Milan, Everllence, ABB, and OceanWings announced a partnership to develop sustainable propulsion systems for future LNG carriers, reads an Everllence release.

The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a hybrid concept combining diesel-electric (DFE+) systems with wind-assisted propulsion.

Blending Wind with Smart Electric Systems

The project integrates Everllence and ABB’s DFE+ system—offering high engine efficiency and modular flexibility—with OceanWings’ wingsail technology, which optimizes wind power using adaptive trimming. The hybrid system aims to cut fuel use, emissions, and operating costs while maintaining performance across variable sea conditions.

Initially targeting LNG vessels, the concept is scalable to other ship types with long-range operations and adequate deck space. The collaboration highlights the potential for combining renewable energy and advanced electrification to accelerate the maritime industry’s carbon reduction goals.
