2 of 10 VLSFO samples tested in the Greek Port of Piraeus have had higher Sulphur contents than the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 0.50% cap allows when tested over the past two weeks.
Sulphur Overshoot
Out of 10 VLSFO samples analyzed at the Greek Port of Piraeus within the last two weeks, 2 samples have shown elevated Sulphur levels surpassing the 0.50% limit set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These two samples contained Sulphur levels at 0.56%, blatantly breaching the specified standards.
When the blending process nears or surpasses the designated limit, it heightens the potential for buyers to acquire and utilize fuels that do not adhere to the worldwide or regional regulations for sulphur content. This can result in the combustion of non-compliant fuels, thus contributing to environmental concerns and regulatory violations within the maritime industry.
