Explosion Aboard Oil Tanker Off Oman, 3 Missing

On August 14, an explosion occurred onboard an oil tanker and three crew members were reported to be missing.

What happened?

The tanker vessel ‘MT Desh Vaibhav’ belonging to Shipping Corporation of India was enroute to Fujairah, UAE, which suffered an explosion in one of her cargo tanks off Oman coast.

The explosion onboard the vessel resulted in three people missing and one person was reported to be injured. The injured crew member was evacuated by a helicopter.

The fire has been brought under control by firefighters and process is on to cool down its fuel tank.

Search and rescue

As per preliminary report on the fire incident, search and rescue operations has been initiated. Assistance has been sought from the Oman Royal Navy and other ships in the vicinity. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire.
