South Korea’s H-Line Shipping and US energy major ExxonMobil recently held a naming ceremony for two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers at Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessels, named HL Alyssa Warner and HL Edward Austin, honor two late ExxonMobil employees whose contributions left a lasting legacy within the company.
A Tribute that Sails On
The two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers were named in memory of Alyssa Warner and Ed Austin—long-serving members of the ExxonMobil team. Alyssa contributed 21 years to the company, while Ed served for nearly 15 years. According to ExxonMobil LNG, the decision to name the vessels after them is a heartfelt tribute to their dedication and impact. HL Alyssa Warner has already departed the South Korean yard and is en route near the Philippine Sea, while HL Edward Austin remains anchored at Okpo. Both ships were part of a 2022 order that included two additional sister vessels, scheduled for delivery later this year. Each ship, valued at approximately $209 million, will operate under a 10-year charter agreement with ExxonMobil, highlighting the strong partnership between the two companies.
