Norwegian authorities have planned to blow up a drifting barge headed for Valhall platform in the North Sea with F-16 aircraft.

On New Year’s Eve, a giant barge broke away from its moorings in the vicinity of rigs in the Valhall field.  The vessel eventually missed the platform by less than 2km.  Nearly 235 workers were evacuated from the BP Norway’s Valhall field on 31st December as the barge headed to Valhall field.

According to the reports, the authorities were discussing in scuttling the unmanned barge, before it became apparent that its path was not likely to hit any offshore infrastructure.
