  • A false doctor who treated on a cruise ship about 1,300 passengers.
  • Patients had not been hurt.
  • The accused worked as coordinator of the German Organ Transplantation Foundation (DSO).
  • Worked well as a lecturer at the Berlin Charité.

On August 8, the Berlin regional court sentenced a man who falsely claimed to be a doctor and treated patients on a cruise ship to three years in prison.

The court found that the defendant claimed to be a doctor for five years starting in 2010, using a forged medical license, to enhance his status and because doctors earn more money.  Patients had not been hurt, said the presiding judge.  “He would not have been able to intervene in case of complications.”

The accused worked as coordinator of the German Organ Transplantation Foundation (DSO) and was a lecturer as well at the Berlin Charité.

For ten months he worked as a doctor on Aida cruise ship and treated nearly 1,300 guests. The impostor reported to have made more than EUR 500 000 in cheating.

The scam blew up in 2015, when the accused applied for a new medical ID with forged document.
