What happened?

Early on Wednesday evening, the ship Sea Emperor reportedly caught fire off the north coast of the Isle of Wight.

The fire sparked the ship’s lifeboats Cowes RNLI to be launched alongside Calshot RNLI around 02:00 pm.

The volunteer crew was tasked to launch the lifeboats following a fire on the ship.

False alarm due to bright lights:

Both of Calshot’s inshore lifeboats were quickly able to confirm that there was no fire present and that the alarm had been raised due to bright deck lights on the anchored vessel.

All 3 lifeboats were stood down to return to the station.
