A malfunctioning ship alarm was the source of discomfort on Monday morning to residents located near Port Philip.

What happened?

It was a rude awakening to numerous residents to be woken up harshly on Monday, but that’s exactly what happened to many residents by the bay due to a malfunctioning alarm on a ship on Port Phillip.

Malfunctioning alarm:

The distress signal – seven long toots before one short – rang out shortly after 5am for roughly 30 minutes.

Residents from Port Melbourne to Newport, and even as far as South Yarra, reported being woken by the noise.
