On August 24, a river ferry reportedly collided with a bulk carrier due to the captain’s fault.
What happened?
In the evening of August 24, the river ferry ‘Juliusplate’ collided with bulk carrier ‘Stellar Atlantic’ in Weser. The ferry was proceeding from the ferry point in Berne when it collided with the bulk carrier which was enroute to Iskenderun.
Captain’s callousness blamed:
The Captain of the river ferry ‘Juliusplate’ is blamed for the collision has he had misjudged the distance. The ferry sustained damages during the collision and the bulk carrier sustained damages to its hull. The ferry lost its bow ramp, which was submerged in the river. The vessel has been berthed in MSC-Gate in Bremerhaven after the collision.
Search on for bow ramp:
The sounding vessels ‘Zenit’ and the dredger ship ‘Harriersand’ started search for the submerged bow ramp of the ferry but was unsuccessful in its search. The ferry has been towed to the Fassmer-Yard for further inspection and repairs.
Investigation underway:
The port officials have initiated investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Fortunately, no one was injured during the collision.
