Fincantieri and Accenture have announced the launch of Fincantieri Ingenium, a new joint venture aimed at accelerating digitalization in shipbuilding, defense, and port logistics. The company is 70% owned by Fincantieri NexTech and 30% by Accenture, and it is part of the technological evolution outlined in the shipbuilding group’s Industrial Plan.
Digital ecosystem for next-generation vessels
Fincantieri Ingenium combines the naval expertise of the Trieste-based group with Accenture’s digital capabilities, with the goal of developing new technologies, attracting talent, and enhancing high value-added services for ship and port infrastructure management.
One of the flagship initiatives is “Navis Sapiens”, a digital ecosystem for next-generation vessels that integrates application services, AI-ready platforms, and a marketplace for third-party digital solutions. The first ship equipped with this system is expected to enter service by the end of 2025.
The digital transformation will also extend to ship-to-shore connectivity, through an interoperable system that enables real-time data exchange between ports, shipyards, and vessels at sea. This approach aims to boost operational efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of the Italian port sector, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, thanks to advanced data usage for reducing consumption and emissions.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, stated that the joint venture represents a strategic step to accelerate the sector’s digitalization by leveraging artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies. Teodoro Lio, CEO of Accenture Italy, emphasized that the collaboration marks a significant step forward in maritime innovation and is a concrete example of collaboration between two organizations committed to transforming the market and creating new value.
