Fincantieri, a global shipbuilding leader, and Accenture, a top professional services firm, have officially signed an agreement to form Fincantieri Ingenium—a new joint venture aimed at accelerating digital transformation in the cruise, defense, and port infrastructure sectors. The venture will be 70% owned by Fincantieri NexTech and 30% by Accenture, combining their strengths in shipbuilding, digital engineering, and AI-driven innovation.
Fincantieri Ingenium to Pioneer AI-Powered Maritime Ecosystems
The joint venture’s first major initiative is the development of Navis Sapiens, a digital ecosystem for next-generation and upgraded ships. It will include:
-
A suite of application services to optimize ship operations and lifecycle management
-
A cyber-secure digital platform featuring advanced AI capabilities
-
A marketplace for solution exchange across the maritime sector
The first vessel equipped with Navis Sapiens is expected to be launched by end of 2025, reflecting the initiative’s rapid progress.
Additionally, the venture will deploy sea-to-shore interoperability solutions to improve data flow between ships, ports, and shipyards, thereby enhancing the performance of Italy’s maritime infrastructure.
Sustainability and Skill Development at the Core
Fincantieri Ingenium is built on a sustainability-first approach, aiming to reduce environmental impact through data-driven energy optimization, aiding shipowners in cutting fuel consumption. It also seeks to develop new tech capabilities and attract fresh talent, with a strong focus on digital skills, AI, cybersecurity, and IoT.
Executives from both companies emphasized that this collaboration will reshape maritime operations globally, positioning Italy as a leader in digital shipbuilding innovation.
