Fincantieri and ASRY Sign Partnership to Expand Naval Collaboration in Bahrain

In a significant moment during the 46th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa witnessed the signing of a new partnership agreement between Fincantieri and ASRY, reports Fincantieri.

Leadership From Both Sides Formalises the Agreement

Fincantieri was represented by Chairman Biagio Mazzotta and Eugenio Santagata, the General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division. ASRY’s CEO, Ahmed AlAbri, also signed the agreement, marking an important step towards enhanced collaboration in Bahrain’s naval and industrial sectors.

Strategic Entry Into Bahrain’s Naval Market

This agreement not only bolsters Fincantieri’s presence in the Middle East but also opens the door for potential partnerships with MAESTRAL. It paves the way for the company to become more involved in Bahrain’s expanding defence and maritime industries.

Scope of Collaboration Under the MoU

The partnership will focus on exploring opportunities for:

  1. Designing and building military surface vessels up to 80 meters for the Bahrain Navy and Coast Guard
  2. Developing offshore vessels of a similar size
  3. Pursuing potential export contracts throughout the Gulf region
  4. Offering maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for military, commercial, and offshore fleets
  5. Sharing technical expertise and enhancing production processes

Fincantieri Highlights Long-Term Vision in the Gulf

Fincantieri CEO and Managing Director Pierroberto Folgiero stated: “This agreement strengthens our strategic position in the Gulf and confirms Fincantieri’s desire to develop long-term industrial partnerships with leading partners such as ASRY. By combining complementary skills and converging visions, we are laying the foundations for a solid and structured presence in the Bahraini shipbuilding market, in line with the objectives of our integrated export platform in the Middle East.”
