Fincantieri and WSense Partner to Advance Underwater Monitoring for Maritime Infrastructure

Fincantieri Infrastructure Opere Marittime has signed a new agreement with WSense to bring advanced underwater monitoring and communication systems into major maritime and port projects. The deal was signed by Giorgio Bellipanni and Chiara Petrioli, marking a step toward smarter and safer port infrastructure.

The collaboration will integrate WSense’s technology into future projects. These systems gather real-time data on seabed conditions, water quality, currents, biodiversity and underwater noise. They also track the stability of structural elements. As a result, ports can build early-warning tools and improve the control of operations such as dredging and breakwater construction.

The agreement also supports environmental goals. Both companies aim to monitor the impact of port infrastructure on local ecosystems. This data will guide better design choices and reduce environmental risk.

Fincantieri’s CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero, said the partnership strengthens the Group’s ability to apply cutting-edge underwater technologies. He highlighted that IoUT systems will help ports become safer and more sustainable.

WSense CEO, Chiara Petrioli, noted that the collaboration expands their industrial reach. Their platform is built to work in complex underwater environments and to support infrastructure management with continuous data and advanced tools.

This agreement builds on a strong relationship between the two companies. Earlier in the year, Fincantieri invested €2.5 million in the scale-up, with an option to extend. Their cooperation began in 2023 with a Memorandum of Understanding and has already produced results, including three tenders from the National Underwater Dimension Hub.
